Rain rain go away!!
RAIN!!!
This weather!! So, I'm not one who usually complains about the weather (publicly that is, I complain plenty to my family!) But, this weather is getting old! And it's causing all sorts of issues with my crops that I've never seen before. My biggest problem right now is rust! Rust on plants can be deadly and it thrives in humid wet environments. To make things even more special, it's contagious to other plants! I found an organic treatment I can spray on them but if it doesn't stop raining soon it's pretty much useless. But, what does LOVE this weather is my lawn and the weeds! So, I've been weeding like crazy and trying to get the lawn mowed whenever it stops raining long enough to dry out!
In other news, I've added four, thirty foot rows of growing space to my farm! My plan is to move my Peonies out there and use the previous Peony rows for the Campanula that I started from seed last month. So far, I've moved six of the Peonies and was able to transplant one tray of the Campanula. I've also started tons of Snapdragon, Sweet William, Yarrow and Feverfew seeds. Yes, Snaps are annuals but they are pretty cold-hardy so I start them from seed indoors in late July, then transplant them out into the field in late August. They survive the Winter and I get extra healthy plants come Spring!
The Calendula I direct seeded at the end of June is just starting to bloom and the Celosia (also seeded at the same time) is almost blooming. So, the late Summer bouquets should be gorgeous!! That is, if the rust doesn't take out everything!!
That's all for now! I'd love to hear from you! If you have questions about anything or just want to say, "Hi" hit the reply button!
Take care!
